Daily devotional: The Art of Timing

As parents, we have to master the perfect timing of when to speak to our children. By doing this they can better understand the guidance we wish to provide. We have to try our best to minimize knee jerk pronouncements out of what our curious, boundary-testing, and hormonal kids could say at a given moment. To calm ourselves when their words and actions start hurting our pride.

Ephesians 6:4
Ephesians 6:4

As the adult in the equation, our assertion as their parents should not cross the line of our respect for their dignity as little people. That we should never forget that God just entrusted them to us, and so
we should try our very best to parent them in accordance to God’s will.

Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:4

Growing and Hormonal

As they grow, and start to reason out, we should remain firm yet still be able to keep ourselves from retaliating with hurtful words to get even with the pain they may have caused us. When we restrain
ourselves, we get to douse the flames of anger and our relationships will remain intact.

While there is no perfect parent-child relationship, a harmonious one will always be possible when Christ remains at the center of the family. When we try our best to bring ourselves and our children before the Lord, seek Him together, and try our best to follow His will then there will be lesser chances of friction.

“All your children will be taught by the Lord, and great will be their peace.” Isaiah 54:13

Thank you for reading our devotional today. Kindly read Deuteronomy 6:6-7 for a deeper dive into the topic.

Reflection Question:  Do you struggle with communicating with your children? What issues between you and your children would you like to surrender by the Lord’s feet, so that He could guide you?

Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father, thank you that you are faithful and gracious. That we can come to you for help in our parenting responsibilities and we can look up to you and your So, Jesus Christ as examples of how we should conduct ourselves as parents. Thank you for your patience towards the mistakes and failures that we make. Please grant us the strength to raise our children according to your will. Amen.
