Daily devotional: The Superdeep

The Kola Superdeep is said to be the deepest artificial hole to be dug on earth. The 12-kilometer pit took the Russians 20 years to dig, and locals call it, the entrance way to hell.

In our earthly journey, we can also dig a pit that may be far too overwhelming to get out of. When we habitually sin, or we cannot manage to get out of addiction, or the sin cycle that seems to keep us in a dark hole, we make for ourselves a hole that could keep us from seeing the light. It could plunge us into the abyss of depression, and get us stuck into a never-ending playlist of overwhelming guilt and regret.

Psalm 18:6
Psalm 18:6

But the good news is we can get out of this monstrous pit, and finally see the light. When we decide to follow Jesus, and step away from our sinful lifestyle, we can climb our way up and face the world again.

“He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters.” Psalm 18:16

When we reach out to our Heavenly Father, He will outstretch His mighty arm to get us out of the muddy pit we got ourselves into. There is no pit that is too deep, too muddy, nor too complex for our almighty Savior to get us out of .

“I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to himare radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him and saved him out of all his troubles. Psalm 34:4-6

And so when we find ourselves buried in problems, buried in depression, and buried in shame let us raise our arms to call for His help. Let us raise our arms to declare our full dependence on Him, Let us raise our arms to praise Him for what He has done for us in the past. Because when we reach out to Him, when we humble ourselves to ask for His help, and when we praise Him for our present-blessings, He reaches out from on high, and gives us new life.

“He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him.” Psalm 40:2-3

Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to ponder on Psalm 34 to dig deeper on today’s topic.

Reflection Question: Have you ever found yourself stuck on a pit you dug yourself in? What steps did you take to get yourself out of it?

Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father, thank you for rescuing us from the dark holes we managed to dig ourselves in. Thank you that when you lift us up, you make us brand new. Thank you for the help and redemption, may I be confident enough to witness to your saving grace. Amen.
