Daily devotional: True Healing

Sometimes healing does not always mean getting fully cured of the physical or emotional pain that ails us. The healing that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ gives us comes in the form of hope. Hope that does not disappear in spite of persistent emotional turmoil. A faith-filled healing that bears hope and courage,  anchored in the strength and character of a fully sovereign, overly gracious, and loving Savior, who only has the best plans for us.

Romans 15:13

“To bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.” Isaiah 61:1-3

Fully assured of His love

When we know that our fate lies in the hands of a Savior, who meets us where we are, we get to shift our focus from pain to his peace. This is because in the midst of our struggles we know that Jesus comes close to us. He sits with us at our proverbial rock bottom until we are okay to rise up again in spite of our lingering pains and fears.

We are healed because we are assured that our Savior fully understands, truly cares, and will never abandon. We have been touched by the Messiah, who is perfectly capable of making everything better in an instant, yet because of His perfect love for us, allows us to grow and learn from our pain.

“Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” Romans 5:3-5

Moving on inspite of pain

And so we truck on even if we are still saddled with pain. We move forward even if the emotional stings still bear its weight on our already droopy shoulders. Now that we take courage from the hand that holds us, we know that we could manage.

In our hearts we know that He is already working in our lives, and making things right. We take hold of our true healing because we have with us, the God of all comforts, our Prince of Peace.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13

Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to ponder on Isaiah 61:1-3 to dig deeper on today’s topic.

Reflection Question: Do you still struggle from emotional and physical pain? How does fully surrendering your struggles to the Lord help you move forward in life? If you have not yet asked for His help to bear the pain. what concrete steps will you take to entrust your full healing to Him?

Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father, thank you for giving me the hope that heals. May you grant me the grace and confidence to fully take hold of it, as I endeavor to move on and charge towards your will for my life. Amen.
