]]>The post Aircon-free ways to keep babies and kids cool this summer appeared first on Happy Pinay Mommy.
]]>The sweltering heat has been the concern of everyone nowadays, and most moms are looking for strategies to cool their babies amid the intense summer heat.
My little shobe is having a hard time outdoors nowadays as anytime she is out of the house or the car, she does not only sweat beads and beads of perspiration — she sweats profusely you’d think she just came out of the shower!
But our little ones cannot just stay inside air-conditioned areas the whole summer! They still need to get out, and get active. At the same time, we parents should also have a respite from the sky-rocketing electric bills the summer brings. So–
2. Bring out the pool or the batya. Not everyone has an access to a home pool or swimming pool in their clubhouse but every home has a batya! Set it up, bring out some bath toys and let them splash away! Just make sure to still use some baby sun screen on them, and that you or someone you trust watches them closely. Babies can drown even in small amounts of water.

3. Bring out the popsicles. Whether it is a breastmilk popsicle or a fresh fruit popsicle or even store-bought ones, your little darling will surely enjoy the freezing coolness of this treat! Do you have an older child? Why not take it even a notch higher by making old-fashioned ice candy with your little love?
4. Hydrate! Make sure your littles drink up water and have unlimited access to your milk! This will ensure they are adequately hydrated, and the sweat they release is replaced and body fluids are replenished.
5. Frozen fruit for dessert. Skip the carb-filled cakes and meryendas and give your children frozen cut up fruits. Melons, pineapples, bananas, avocados, watermelons are perfect for freezing.
6. Cold water spray. Remember the Evian brumisateur? Make a homemade and baby-friendly version by just using cold water from the ref in a recycled pocket sprayer, and spray on to your little one to freshen her up. For you mama, you can use this recipe.
6. Fresh Juice Galore. If your baby or child is old enough to appreciate juices then you might want to serve them ice cold fresh juices like fresh buko juice, calamansi juice, dalandan juice, melon juice, and the like. Young kids will also enjoy almost-frozen smoothies using fresh bananas, mangoes, strawberries, avocados and the like. The milk or yogurt component will also help up their calcium consumption for the day!
7. Cold compresses. Freeze wet wash cloth, and offer it to your child when he or she feels too warm for comfort. Perfect areas for the compress include the neck and nape area.
8. Ask the pedi. Ask your pediatrician‘s advice if you can use baby powder on your child at least to help keep too much sweating at bay.
9. Multiple baths. As long as it is quick, there is nothing wrong with bathing your baby two to three times a day, especially before nap and bed time.
10. Get Native! Serve native icy Filipino coolers to your babies and kids, just go easy on the sugar. They will surely enjoy Mais Con Hielo, Halo-Halo, Saba con Hielo, and even Buco Pandan, or the usual Fiesta Fruit salad.
So there you have it I am sure there are other ways to cool babies and kids this summer without having to use the A/C. I promise to update this post as soon as I get to discover more. Hope you could drop by my Facebook page and hit the like button, so you can receive regular updates from Happypinaymommy.com direct on your newsfeed.

]]>The post Where to buy Christmas Dresses for babies in the Philippines appeared first on Happy Pinay Mommy.
]]>It can almost be considered tradition to dress little girls in nice and new dresses every Christmas.
I remember one of my ninangs supplying metwo to three Christmas dresses year after year until i was too old for these. My mom though, still insists on buying and choosing one for me.
Now that im a mom, i fully understand. Little girls get to become all the more adorable when they wear Christmas dresses. Im thinking as well that for families like us who go to church for the midnight mass, kids have to dress up because after all it is like they are attending a birthday party of the best Child ever born.
For you fellow moms, looking for great places to buy Christmas dresses, this post is for you —
1. Department Stores — There is absolutely nothing wrong with scouring those bins for sale items, and going through rack after rack of tutus, organzas, and red and white cotton and tulle dresses. My ex officemate — as i have mentioned in my post on where to buy baptismal dresses — swears by Landmark Department store in Makati for nice yet very affordable Christmas dresses. Of course the selection in SM is vast — just be sure to go to a big one like that of SM Makati or Megamall or probably North Edsa for more choices. The dresses in Rustan’s are definitely not cheap BUT they last a really long time and you are sure you could pass it on to your other children when the time comes — so it will be worth it over time.
2. Malls — it is not really cheap to go shops and boutiques — BUT if you chanced upon their sale, for sure you’d get huge discounts! Worth checking out are Zara, Rajito, Periwinkle, Tarte Tatin, H & M, Cotton on Kids, and even Mother Care sometimes for little ones.
(Post continued below)
====================================================================
===============================================================
3. Bazaars — Check out the many choices in the various bazaars all over the metro. Of course do not forget the year in and year out bazaar at Greenhills. Really lots of choices there that are affordable and cute.
4. Bargain Meccas — Of course how could we ever forget to list down Divi — kakababa mo palang anjan na ang mga baro, yes even outside the famed numbered buildings like 168, 999 and the like. Baclaran — just within the periphery of the church are stall after stall of dresses that would rival those you’d see in department store racks. If you go to the permanent stalls in there and not the bangketa/ambulant vendors, you can see some dresses that are brand-less and label-less but would remind you of the ones sold in major department stores at about 1/3 of the price.
5. Online — if you seriously do not want to be victimized by the epic traffic situation that will be get worse as Christmas draws near — why not let your fingers do the shopping for you? Want cash on delivery and free shipping for items amounting more than P1,000.00 check out Lazada. They have many choices just like this dress which you can get here. You can also check out stylemelittle.com. This is my go-to online shop for my babies from NB stage up to now. Not really cheap but hey the clothes here are nice! Another online children’s dress shop you may wanna check out is The Princess and The Pea PH – they have an ongoing promo of three dresses for P2,000.00 and they have big sister-baby sister dresses too! Here is a link to their FB Store. You may be able to score great finds at Zalora too!
So, there you have it. I am sure there are other places and Online Shops where you may buy Christmas Dresses for your little girl/s. I will be updating this post as soon as I discover more. If you have the time, hope you could drop by my Facebook page and hit the like button, so you can receive regular updates from Happypinaymommy.com direct on your newsfeed.

For those of you looking for hypoallergenic earrings for your babies, either to replace her current earrings, to have an alternate, or you just simply need to find one — this post is for you.
1. Your daughter’s Pedia Clinic — most likely your daughter’s pediatrician has hypoallergenic earrings and will even be willing to pierce your daughter ears just in case they have yet to be pierced. If they do not have any — I am pretty sure they could refer you to a fellow pedia who has some.
2. Mercury Drug — Big branches of this local chain of drugstores have hypo-allergenic earrings most of the time. Ask your friendly pharmacist.

]]>The post Where to buy Baptismal Gowns Outfits in the Philippines appeared first on Happy Pinay Mommy.
]]>If you are already planning out the christening or baptism of your baby then this post is for you.
I earlier wrote about the baptismal requirements for Catholics in the Philippines in this post, and we know that the next question is where to buy the outfit or baptismal gown.
I was lucky because Mamita sent a Christening gown for Achi to wear many years ago, since we were able to preserve it, we just have it dry cleaned as needed and it has been passed on to shobe and all.
Anyway, for those looking for baptismal gowns —
1. Department Stores — Rustan’s has a great selection of baptismal gowns for you to choose from. If you want something more affordable but still nice then you may head to bigger SM department stores like SM Makati and SM Megamall for better choices. My ex-officemate J, meantime swears by Landmark Makati when it comes to affordable yet fab formal wear for babies and kids so you may want to check it out too.
2. Mothercare — their bigger stores have more choices, and I think I saw some at their BGC branch and in Greenbelt 5.
(Post Continued Below)
——————————————————————————————————————————-
——————————————————————————————————————————-
3. Baclaran — My friend, D, runs to Baclaran for just about anything. And she says if you have an eye for fab designs then you can just land in Baclaran a more affordable version of the one you saw at the mall. She says the christening gowns here has the same quality as those in the department stores at less than half the price! The stalls are just in the periphery of the Baclaran Church, so after paying a visit, why not shop around?
4. Lazada — if you do not want to be bothered by the epic traffic situation then Lazada is your best bet. They have these cute little buy christening outfits that are quite cheap like this baby tuxedo set, which you can buy here for P999.00. They have quite a few gowns like this chiffon dress, which you can buy here for just P800.00.
5. Baobao babies — this FB store has traditional christening gowns that are on hand. The prices range from P2,800 to P3K++ as of posting. The gowns come with caps and booties. These are really nice and lovely – white and ecru usually. Check out the designs here.
6. Celestina & Co. — if your baby is somewhat older, or if you want a non-traditional gown and just a formal wear for her then this is the online store to go to. I love this shop actually because it makes choosing clothes for babies and young kids a lot easier. They have tons of accessories to. Check out their website here.
7. UPDATED 11/19/2015: Periwinkle — Thanks to my dear friend Mareng H, for letting me know that this shop sells Christening outfits too. Apparently my inaanak, Sophie, wore a Periwinkle Pina Gown during her Christening. She says the range of Christening outfits there are around P2,000.00 at that time. Periwinkle has branches in ATC, all Rustan’s Department Stores, Shangri-la mall, Eastwood, and even in Marquee Mall, plus a host of other bigger and popular malls. They also have an online shopping site through Zalora, here.
8. UPDATED: Sept 03, 2016: Cudsly.com –– This shopping website also has christening and baptismal gowns for both boys and girls. Check out the selection here.
9. UPDATED: Sept 03, 2016: Shopee.ph — Find brand new and pre-loved baptismal and Christening gowns in this new shopping and selling site. Download their mobile app via the app store or google play, or shop from their website here.
So there you have it. I am sure there are other places and Online Shops where you may buy Christening gowns and baptismal outfits in the Philippines. I will be updating this post as I discover more. For the online stores, I included the links of the shops so that you could personally check on their prices and product availability. ]]>The post Where to buy Baby Cloth Books in the Philippines appeared first on Happy Pinay Mommy.
]]>If you are looking for cloth books for your baby then this post is for you.
As a mom, I know the value of cloth books as these are educational materials that are soft and safe enough to be used even by infants. It is also a good opportunity to introduce to them colors and shapes, and concepts that will catch their attention.
I have compiled a list of some shops (online or physical) where you may buy cloth books for your baby.
1. Jasmine Summer Online Store – Carries different types of cloth books made by SkipHop. They actually even have clip on pram or crib books. And the nice thing about this online store is that they have it on-hand! Prices range from P320.00 to 450.00 as of date of publication. Check out the cloth books here.
2. Toy Stores – I bought my kids’ cloth books mostly in toy stores, and toy sections of big department stores and most great brands are available there. The only caveat about buying in a physical store is the hassle of the heavy traffic situation in and around malls especially during the Christmas season.
(Post Continued Below)
=======================================================
==========================================================
3. Lazada – Has a wide array of choices for cloth books. Most of the items for sale are actually discounted – some even up to 50%. Shobe was gifted with one like this, which also functions as a teether – it is so nice! You may buy it here. You can also opt for this one, which is cheap yet nice with vivid colors! Buy it here.
4. Angel Store PH – has the Lamaze Cloth Book entitle “peek-a-boo, I love you.” Bought something like this for Achi in the mall many years ago and up to now, the color of the fabric has yet to fade. Check out their website here.
5. Tina Dominic – Offers Cloth Books on a pre-order basis. Check out her FB Page here.
6. OLX – Has used and brand new cloth books from its list of sellers. Usual caution though should be exercised as some of the sellers there do not have an online shop where you can make aftersales follow ups.
7. Baby Store PH – Has Lamaze cloth books that your little one will surely enjoy. Check out their FB shop here.
8. Baby Fourth’s Couture — This FB Shop for Baby’s needs has a vast selection of cloth books that are definitely cheaper Vs those sold in malls. Check out their shop here!
9.Bebe Lampers Depot — This FB Baby shop also has a good selection of cloth books. Check out their shop here.
10. UPDATED: Quack and Meow — This FB-based online business makes PERSONALIZED cloth books, which is perfect not just for your baby, but even perfect to be given as gifts to your inaanaks, pamangkins, and other babies in the family. Check out their FB Shop here.
11. UPDATED: May 23, 2016: Liza Zhou: This divi-based coolbi cloth diaper wholesaler also sels Lamaze Cloth Books. Check out her page here.
12. UPDATED: May 23, 2016: Handmade and Beyond: Makes personalized and interactive clothbooks that will surely entertain your little one. Check out their FB online store here.
13. UPDATED: May 23, 2016: Nanay Raketera — Has “Quiet Books” for babies and young children. These are basically interactive cloth books that are so colorful and entertaining for little children. Check out their FB Store here.
14. UPDATED Sept 6, 2016: Urban Mom Store — Sells cloth books and soft toys that will surely entertain your little ones! They have quiet books on counting, traveling, and the alphabet. Check out their FB Page here.
15. UPDATED Oct 11, 2016: 9 Months and Beyond — If you want to physically check out the cloth books you’d like to buy then head towards 9 Months and Beyond’s physical store in Malingap Street in Teachers’ Village, Quezon City. I think they also ship items via their FB Shop. Check out their FB site through this link.

This post is for you then!
Like most mommies, i know for sure you’d wanna have a keepsake of that little bean while she is still super tiny. And I super understand that time is of the essence as you only have a couple of weeks to choose a photographer, book a session and all.
Anyway, ill try my best to help you look for a photo studio for your baby.
1. The Stork Studios – FOR ME, this is one of the best. It is super, super worth it. The babies that you see on Anne Geddes? I am not exaggerating, they could replicate that. Check their sample photos and contact them here.
2. The Picture Company – They have a couple of branches in the Metro, and they offer NB photography in almost all of their branches. If I am not mistaken they have one in BGC, in Rockwell, and then in Greenbelt 5 in Makati as well (next to Gymboree). Check out their website here.

3. The Yellow Sun Studio – If you are from Quezon City then this studio is worth checking out. Check their sample work and inquire here.
4. Pic-a-boo Photo Studio – Is another mall-based Photography studio, this time in the Quezon City Area. They have a branch at the SM City The Block over at North EDSA. This is their FB Page.
5. Great Image Photography – Well they do not specialize in Newborn Photography, but if you are looking for a budget friendly option that is relatively okay, then you may head on to its many branches in most SM Malls ALL OVER the country. Check out their gallery here.
6. Baby Love Studio – You may wanna check this studio out as well. They are based in Multinational Village in Paranaque. Take a look at the adorable photos of the babies here.
7. Nice Print Photography – They may be known for wedding photos but they have also branched out to baby photography. Take note Baby not Newborn – I am not so sure if they do newborn, but babies, well I saw photos of some of my friends’ little beanies that are taken by this company. Anyway, they have branches at SM Megamall and then at SM North EDSA. Check out the sample shots here.
8. UPDATED: Oct 11, 2016 Picture Me — If you live near the Greenhills/San Juan Area then you may want to check out Picture Me studio at the V-Mall (near Toy Kingdom). They have various promos and packages that you may want to check out. Here is a link to their FB Page.
So there you have it, I hope you I was able to help you scout for a photography studio for your little one. Make sure to inquire first before heading to the studio as almost all of them need to have advanced booking/appointments prior to the shoot itself. If you answered yes, then this post is for you. I have compiled a list of some children’s salon within metro manila.
Apart from more patient and experienced salon attendants, these kiddie salons (i dont want to say parlor — sooooo dated!) also have kid-friendly fixtures to make your baby’s first haircut a pleasant experience.
1. Cuts for Tots – This kiddie hair salon has like 8 or 10 branches. Fun because the salon chairs are pretend cars and he like, and there are a lot of stuff to keep the babies and young kids pre-occupied while the salon technicians are going about their haircut. They have branches in Glorietta, Megamall, SM Moa, V-Mall in Greenhills, Eastwood, Robinson’s Place in Manila, SM North EDSA, Trinoma, Fairview Terraces, and even in SM Pampanga. Check out their website here.
2. Kids Hair Salon – This Kiddie hair salon has branches in the following locations: Rustan’s Makati, Robinson’s Galleria, SM Southmall, SM Manila, The Podium, SM Dasmarinas, and in Marquee Mall. Check out their website here.

]]>If you are looking for a pediatric dentist or a children’s dental clinic for your child then this post is for you.
I have read in countless books and websites that it is critical to give your child a pleasant experience on her first dental check-up. This is to avoid scares etc, that believe me, will just be hard not just on your child, but also for you. Read this earlier post about how hard (and expensive) it could get.
As for the timing, well, I have often heard and read that the best time to have them checked is when nothing’s hurting yet so that they will not be traumatized. When the teeth starts to erupt, you can schedule your first checkup so that you could also be taught by the dentist about how to care for your child’s oral health.

]]>The post Cloth Diapering Tips from Experienced CDing Mamas appeared first on Happy Pinay Mommy.
]]>This post is long overdue.
As you know, a couple of months ago I decided to start our Cloth Diaper journey. I was just a part-time cloth mama then, as I was not so confident yet about using cloth diapers overnight or for going out.
Fast forward to present moment when we have already started to exclusively use cloth diapers. I am just happy that finally, we have already discovered the system that works for us, and I will talk about our journey to ECD in a separate post.
For now, allow me to thank some of the patient moms that I have met in this journey, who in one way or another helped newbie moms like me to become confident enough to try cloth diapers, and eventually go ECD.
I asked some of them cloth diapering tips that they could give to moms who are planning or new to using cloth diapers.
“#1 – Ask yourself if you are really willing to do cloth diaper washing. Is this really something you are prepared to do? You can’t just buy and leave ‘yaya’ to do it for you. You have to be hands-on also. Also have to ask yourself if this will be long term or short term. How about water supply? #2 – Do you want to do it from newborn stage until 2yo? Then you have to look for a quality brand one (even WAHM made diapers are far better than branded ones) that will suit your budget yet won’t compromise quality. Prefolds with covers & pocket style diapers are always the to-go but there are heaps of other types & styles which might appeal to you. It’s wiser to try one or two first before buying a whole lot. Join cloth diaper destashing groups & other cloth diaper related groups. You’ll benefit from it. Don’t be scared. Nothing is right or wrong when it comes to cloth diapering. All that matters is it is suitable & safe for your baby as long as you stick to your washing routine once you already get the hang of it. Remember, washing & rinsing well are very important.” — Mommy Gladys

“I was once a noob as well to cloth diapering and was lost, confused, and clueless about what kind or brand to buy for my lo. I suggest you do some research first, just the basics on cding. You might get cold feet if you overwhelm yourself with tons of info on cding. Joining a support group is also helpful for cding moms, noobs and veterans alike. Budget is also a factor. I always apply the cost benefit analysis whenever I am about to “invest” on something. If the benefits outweigh the cost, then go for it even if it seems “mahal” at acquisition. China nappies versus US brand nappies: it’s all about the inserts, not the brand. Look for stores that let you buy the shells and inserts separately and does not require to buy a minimum number of items just to get the cheap price. Lastly, make your cd journey fun. Don’t stress yourself out just cos you experience leakages, poop stains, or you have to do an extra load of laundry. After all, you’re doing this for your lo and mother Earth.” – Mommy Monica
“For newborns, I’d suggest using wipeable diaper covers and lampin/prefolds (except maybe in the evenings so they can sleep longer). The covers can be reused (make sure you wipe them down properly before re-using) and cotton prefolds/lampin are easier to wash/dry/clean. Newborns poop and pee frequently, so covers are more practical and you wont need a huge stash of cloth diapers in the beginning. Use the lampin/prefolds in the traditional folds or simply padfold them into the cover.”

]]>The post How to Give Medicine to a Baby appeared first on Happy Pinay Mommy.
]]>As i have mentioned in my weekly meal plan post, our little familia has been saddled with allergies that turned into viral infections which sent us sniffles and coughs for the past three weeks.
The past three weeks called for four pedia visits and i am just glad no hospitalization had been required for my babies.
And since i do not want to burden you with the nitty gritty details of my life (haha!), allow me to share with you fellow mommies, some of the truths i discovered on giving medicine to a baby in the past pedia visits.
1. The five minute rule. If the baby throws up within five minutes after giving the meds, then you have to give the same amount of meds you had him take before he threw up. If the baby throws up after five minutes then you are fine not to give him another dose for that specific time schedule.
2. Wake a sleeping baby. If the pedia instructs you to give meds every 4-6-8-12 hour or so, do it, even if you have to wake up the baby. I know this may be very difficult since we usually want them to rest, but the pedia said the intervals should be followed.
3. All about fever meds. Fever temp is 37.8 Celsius, and fever meds prescribed by your pedia should be administered to your baby as soon as he gets this temperature. IF on his next scheduled dose his temp dropped, give him the required dosage still UNTIL his fever is gone for twelve hours. on the next dose after the 12-hour period, and your baby’s temp is already below fever range, then you may stop administering your fever meds.
4. Antibiotics and Expiry. Be mindful of the expiration period for antibiotics. Read the label, and make sure you remember that it can only be used for that period of time (some can only be used for seven days without refrigeration, and up to 14 days when refrigerated).
5. Use designated measuring cups/droppers. For older babies, never rely on tablespoons and teaspoons in administering meds, as these may not be accurate. Use the cup or the dropper that came with the medicine, or better yet invest on one. I personally use a syringe (of course without the needle) to give meds to my babies because they tend to be less messy compared to usual droppers. They are cheap too.
Seeing your child sick is disheartening, and the best thing that we can do is to remain consistent in giving them the medicines prescribed by their pedia (as opposed to self-medicating), and bringing them to the follow-up check-up whether they got better or otherwise. Will soon come up with a post on tips on how to give medicines to a baby. For now you may want to watch this video on giving medicine to a baby.

]]>So what is a cloth diapering Pinay Mommy to do? Again, i scoured the internet and FB forums as I am not an expert on cloth diapering, and the series of posts that I have on cloth diapering is part of my CD Journey.
1.As much as possible use pocket CDs because pockets dry quicker compared to other systems like AIO, AI2 or HFs.
2. As for the inserts, the Electric Fan will be your best friend. Air the CDs using your electric fan. This one is what we use, and you may buy it here (it is on sale!!!!) It would be great as well if you could use collapsible clothes drying racks indoors — buy one here.
3. I have yet to try this but some mommies swear by hanging their inserts behind the refrigerator so it could dry quickly. If ever you are thinking of doing the same, I guess you should limit your CDs and Inserts’ exposure to high heat as these may get damaged.
