Beginner friendly chicken tinola, perfect for the rainy days

When you have been breastfeeding continuously for more than 10 years, Chicken Tinola will become a staple in your household. If it were music, it would have been one of the sound tracks of my life, and I am not exaggerating. Upon the birth of my third child, I almost abhorred the sight of Tinola but since I know that this will help me make more milk, weekly chicken Tinola for the win! BTW if you are on the lookout for breastfeeding resources, please check out our breastfeeding section here.

Having said that, I have decided to share with you today this beginner-friendly chicken tinola recipe that is helpful not just for lactating moms like me, but is also a very nutritious dish for young kids — actually a healthy dish for everyone, period. Chicken breast of course is a lean meat, add to that the veggies like Sayote (or even Papaya), and the greens which is usually malunggay (Moringa) or dahon ng sili (chili leaves), ginger is of course good for digestion and garlic is good for the health, plus onions is a great anti-oxidant. It is jampacked with the nutrition every person needs, and best of all, the ingredients are not expensive, and the soup? Super soothing!

So without further ado, here is the simplest of all procedures on how to get that steaming bowl of Chicken Tinola into your dining table.

Easy Chicken Tinola

Here’s the simple procedure:

1. Preboil chicken cuts for at least 12 minutes. Wash and then set aside.

2. Saute ginger, garlic, and onions. Add the chicken and make sure that the chicken pieces absorb the infused oil from the aromatics.

3. Add chopped sayote, and add about 3-4 cups of water (or even more depending on how soupy you want your Tinola to be).

4. Add 1-2 chicken cubes or 1-2 Tbsp of Patis whatever seasoning you prefer.

5. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10-12 minutes.

6. Once the sayote is tender, add in the malunggay or dahon ng sili. simmer for another minute or two and then serve with a smile!

Food for the soul

Hope you can also allow me to share with you one of my favorite bible passages, this time from the Gospel of St. John:

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33

Again, thank you for stopping by and till next post!

Hope this post is not too late for the Breastfeeding Month. I have been talking about my experience in tandem feeding in snippets but I have yet to write a full post about it.

So allow me fellow mommies to share with you my experience in tandem feeding, in this post.

Tandem feeding could just be one of the most challenging things that I have done as a mom especially on those early days. Little guy was born when Shobe was still little too! So many sleepless nights, backaches, super thirsty and super hungry post nursing moments, and self pity/iyakan moments when i literally felt I had no time to recuperate from my c-sec.

Actually up until now sleepless nights and backaches are my bestfriends. It turned out that my older nursling was more demanding than my then newborn. If they werent nursing together, they nursed one after another virtually leaving me with close to zero sleep throughout the night, and zero rest during the day.

Breastfeeding Support

But I was able to carry on, thanks to the support of my dear Capt Barbel who cheered me on and showed appreciation towards my eagerness to tandem nurse, helped me with other parenting duties, gave me all the food that I ask for, and listened to all my rants and pagod dialogues. My eldest Achie, who was alway there to get me my water bottle or a piece of diaper, a bib or burp cloth or entertain the youngest or the toddler while I am nursing the other one.

The listening ear of my BFF J, who was patient enough to listen to my gushing about the babies and their milestones, my realizations and virtually support me as I recuperate from child birth and adjustments. And of course for the love of my MIL and my Tita who supplies me with fresh malunggay, and for sending over to out house a never-ending slew of padalang ulam and countless merienda / midnight snacks. And syempre sa walang kamatayang #malunggay. Truly, it is a team effort!

Overcoming tandem breastfeeding challenges

So mommies out there in the deep trenches of tandemfeeding AKA first few weeks, it will go by quickly and you will just realise that you have surpassed those sleepless nights and restless days.

Catholic mommies — pray for the intercession of our Lady of ala Leche. I have written a post on her novena — click here. The baby phase go by sooo fast that I now realised that I havent stopped nursing since my eldest was born. She and shobe overlapped for a bit until she self-weaned from her full-term breastfeeding.

With my eldest Achie, i was able to experience pumping milk every three hours in the office or in Official Business Events to take home to her so I could still exclusive breastfeed her even if i was working back then.

Now that I am a stay at home mom, i still face breastfeeding challenges like this tandem nursing pero as they say laban lang 💪❤

So cheers to us #padedemoms who just keep going and going!

How to make malunggay iced tea for breastfeeding moms

I have been breastfeeding non-stop since I became a mom, and Malunggay has helped me a lot in keeping my supply up. Malunggay iced tea for breastfeeding is a great companion for me, providing a good alternate to ice cold water. Pumping back when i was still working and I only had one child, nursing through pregnancy, and now tandem breastfeeding — malunggay iced tea has always been my drink of choice.

Malunggay Iced Tea for Breastfeeding

And while there are a lot of malunggay concoctions out there like ready to drink teas, juice concentrate, malunggay powder and malunggay capsule, im sure some of you may still be curious if you can make some on your own.

As we know, malunggay trees are aplenty in our country. Check out a vacant lot and chances are there is a malunggay tree growing there. We may not have a malunggay tree in our community but some relatives have in their backyard and they joyfully share the leaves (and sometimes the fruit for ulam), with us when we go visit them.

And even if you don’t have a relative or family who has trees in their yard, malunggay is considered very affordable. You can buy a good amount for less than ten pesos.

So for those of you who may not be familiar as to how to make malunggay iced tea, this post then is for you. Summer is just around the corner, and this could be the beamst thirst quencher for you nursing momma!

Ingredients for Malunggay Iced Tea for Breastfeeding Moms:

Malunggay iced tea

You only need three ingredients to prepare malunggay iced tea: water, malunggay leaves, and brown sugar.

1 cup of malunggay leaves

3 cups of water

Half a cup of brown sugar filuted in half a cup of water

Lemon or Calamansi (optional)

Steps in Preparing Malunggay Tea:

1. In a sauce pan, pour the brown sugar and water.

2. Boil the mixture, and simmer until it turns into a syrup.

Brown sugar syrup

Wait until the water-sugar mixture turns into a syrup-like consistency

3. Set aside.

4. In a separate pot, pour in the three cups of water, and the washed malunggay leaves.

5. Bring to a boil, and simmer for about three minutes.

6. Cool for a bit, and then strain into glass jars or pitchers.

7. Add a tablespoon of syrup per glass or adjust to your taste preference. You can also use pure honey if you wish.

8. If you prefer, you can also add a squeeze of lemon or calamansi, depending on your taste preference.

9. Pour over ice and serve!

Malunggay iced tea

Malunggay iced tea is so easy to make, and so affordable too!

What I usually do is I pour the tea in a glass pitcher, refrigerate it and drink throughout the day. The syrup on the other hand, i transfer to a glass jar so i could use as needed. This malunggay iced tea for breastfeeding moms can keep for about two to three days in the refrigerator.

Malunggay Iced Tea for Kids

Another great thing about this is that you can always share this with your kids if they ask for some because it is clean-tasting and healthy! Nothing beats freshed iced tea, really.

Malunggay means more savings

Since malunggay supplements can come with a price, this iced tea is surprisingly super cheap to make! You would not even spend P15.00 for a liter. I cannot count how many benefits it would bring but malunggay iced tea is indeed a great drink for the whole family.

So there you have it, hope you could try this recipe and let us know how it goes. You can connect with us via Facebook, Instagram or Pinterest.

Kaypee Baby Nursing Wear and Breastfeeding Clothes

As a mom who has been breastfeeding non-stop for the past couple of years, nursing clothes are definitely heaven sent. The stingy mom (take note about the word mom, not person because I loved shopping before I had kids) in me though prevents me from buying a lot of nursing dresses and blouses because I would rather save up for the kids’ needs and wants than indulging myself.

Nursing bras, nursing tanks and a couple of nursing clothes and dresses augmented the breastfeeding-friendly clothes that make up my whole wardrobe. My clothes shopping motto was, if I can easily nurse in it, and it looks good on me, it is sold.

Enter this Kaypee Baby Nursing Clothes Product Review that my lovely editor delegated to me, which I super, super appreciate. I had six items to review: (1) Nursing Bra; (2) A Printed Flowy Sleeveless Blouse; (3) A Damask-Print Blouse; (4) A Dress, which they call “Duchess Dress;” (5) A Rashguard; and (6) A Mom and Daughter Blouse.

Kaypee Baby Nursing Bra

Nursing Bras that are affordable but great to wear have always been elusive for me. The Nursing Bras that I liked would set me back around Php2,000.00. And this is why Kaypee Baby Nursing Brassiere came as a breath of fresh air.

Kaypee Baby Nursing Bra

Kaypee Baby Nursing Bra is comfy, convenient, has girly designs, and fits the budget well!

It is comfortable to wear, and it provides the support that I need given that this time around, I feel like my breasts are larger because of tandem nursing. Moreover, it adequately provides padding for my nipples. Its nursing feature is also very convenient to use. As for the design, I can say that it is nice and dainty – and definitely suits my girly taste.

The cost is also a huge plus, as it is only at P99.00. Yes, you read it right, it is LESS THAN P100!!!! The price tag will definitely make it easy for someone like me to buy even a dozen!

Kaypee Baby Nursing Blouses

The Kaypee Mommy also sent over three nursing blouses for me to try and review. My Instant favorite was the Black Damask printed Blouse.

It is called Shae Blouse, and honestly, it gave me a boost of confidence because it hid my post partum fat! Yes, the cut is forgiving, and it is very feminine which brought out the kikay in me. As for the nursing convenience factor, both my toddler and infant can happily nurse at the same time without me having to show much skin. I just have to lift up the flowy panel and my two nurslings can tandem feed with ease! It is also worth mentioning that my babies did not feel uneasy with the fabric of the blouse because it is soft and smooth! And did I mention that it is just P198.00? This blouse is even perfect for church mommies!

kaypee baby nursing blouse

kaypee baby nursing blouse

I chose the photo above to demonstrate how easy and discreet one can nurse a toddler who likes to “strike anywhere” even while standing up.

The second blouse that I reviewed was the sleeveless printed flowy blouse. Like the Shae blouse, it provided easy nursing access, and the cut plus the design is forgiving for a mom who may have gained weight. You just have to lift the front fabric detail and presto, your baby can nurse discreetly ASAP! The fabric (which is called ITY) is also soft and cool to the skin, perfect for the summer weather. I wore it over a pair of leggings and tried to pair it with shorts and I felt I looked great! The best news about this blouse is that it is just P119.00.

Kaypee baby nursing wear

As you can see my little nursling was able to breastfeed discreetly from me during our nursing session in the supermarket. Truly, this Kaypee baby nursing wear is comfy band convenient!

The third blouse was a bit checkered, and made of waffle fabric. It is called “Kayee” and in the website it was described as an off-shoulder sexy blouse with ¾ sleeves. At first glance, I had a hard time figuring out how to wear it, but when I realized its cut, then I have surmised that it is a blouse with two nursing access points! You can have your child nurse from the two concealed side nursing access, or nurse from the usual underneath the panel access. It can also be comfortably worn by a pregnant momma.

What I liked about this blouse (which is also the mommy pair of the twinning clothes that the Kaypee Mommy sent me) is that it is cool to the skin and comfortable to wear. It is also great that it has two nursing access points! My toddler actually thinks the side access is great as she did not have a hard time nursing while standing up next to me or even when laying on my lap (The first two that I mentioned above provided a nursing pocket underneath a flowy detail of the blouse). This blouse is also a steal for just P188.00.

Kaypee baby nursing wear

Kaypee baby nursing wear allows you to breastfeed comfortably anywhere!

Kaypee Baby Nursing Rash Guard

This Rash Guard Set was the Ultimate Problem Solver for me this summer season because it allows me to discreetly nurse my children even by the pool or the beach. This is especially because with my battle scars AKA stretch marks, raising my rash guard would kind of be unsightly. Do not get me wrong though, I’m proud to have these scars but I need a bit more toning in the abdomen and lose some post partum fat before I could raise that rash guard gloriously for my little ones to nurse!

Here’s an official photo of the rashguard that The Kaypee Mommy sent me, plus another one that showed the nursing access points of the rashguard.

RS Kaypeebaby nursing rashguard

The Kaypee Baby Nursing Rash Guard is definitely a great summer deal. For just P298.00 you can breastfeed your nursling comfortably whether in the beach, or by the poolside!

For now, Ill be more than happy to have the Kaypee Baby Breastfeeding-Friendly Rash Guard to help me get through the summer confidently. Most of the designs I saw in the website were solid colors, but the one Kaypee Baby sent me was black, with red floral designs. The nursing access was on its sides, and for me it is already a great value at Php298.00. Why great value? Because department store bathing suits are usually at an almost Php400-500.00 per pair and these do not have nursing access, so at this price point, the Kaypee Baby breastfeeding-friendly rash guards are already a value for money choice.

Kaypee Baby Nursing Dress

Kaypeee Baby also sent me a summer dress to review. It is called Duchess Dress and it has slits on its sleeves. At first I was kind of dumbfounded as to how to wear the dress given the many slits as well as its style in general, but once I have figured it out, I realized that it will be very easy to nurse in this dress. And I was not wrong. I could nurse discreetly from the side wearing this dress.

Im showing you this official photo they gave me of the dress, because I might not be able to give justice to the cut of the dress.

Kaypee baby nursing dresses are all cool and comfy to the skin.

Kaypee baby nursing dresses are all cool and comfy to the skin.

The fabric is also soft and cool to the skin, so you can nurse without worrying that your baby’s skin may already be rubbing on to something rough. The dress costs P349.00 only so for a summer dress, it is already a great deal.

Kaypee Baby Twinning Clothes

The twinning/mother and daughter clothes that the Kaypee Mommy sent me was nice, and especially dainty for my eldest. We have about half a dozen twinning clothes from other mom and daughter brands, but this one from Kaypee Baby is unique because the mommy blouse has a nursing access!

Here’s the official photo from kaypeebaby.com. plus our “when worn” version:

Kaypee Baby Twinning Clothes

Kaypee Baby Twinning Clothes

The daughter dress can also double up as a blouse if she is relatively taller already, and it could pass off as a dress for a toddler. This means your daughter can use it for a longer period of time, or if you have a younger toddler girl, they can take turns using it.

It is made of waffle fabric and is free-sized, can be worn by two to four year old girls.

At an unbelievable price of P68.00, it definitely a great deal which can be used as an OOTD or even during a photo shoot.

Nursing Comfort, Mom Style, and Great Value Combined

All in all, I liked the Kaypee Baby line of breastfeeding clothes. Not because they asked me to review their products, but objectively speaking, the clothes are designed really with the Breastfeeding Filipina in mind. These are the winning points for me:

  1. Pure nursing comfort and convenience. The clothes are breastfeeding friendly, taking into consideration both the comfort of the mom who wishes to breastfeed discreetly, and the baby who should remain comfortable while nursing.
  2. Most of the designs are forgiving, especially for moms who are still trying to lose that Post Partum belly. And we all know that when we dress nicely, our confidence gets an extra boost.
  3. The clothes are perfect for Philippine Weather. The problem with some nursing clothes that are bought abroad is that it may not be too airy or cool to the skin. Kaypee Baby nursing clothes took this into consideration.
  4. Wash and Wear. If only I could put this as my number one reason, I would. Being a yayaless mom of very young children, I do not have time to iron my clothes. Good thing the blouses Mommy Sienne sent over does not require ironing. It can go directly from your clothesline to your cabinet!

So for those of you who are looking out for affordable yet nice and comfy breastfeeding-friendly everyday tops, blouses, dresses, brassiere, or even swimwear, check out Kaypeebaby nursing wear through their online store at kaypeebaby.com. They also have other products such as maternity clothes, fitted cloth diapers, nursing ponchos, and kiddie clothes.

They also have gift cards, which for me, are perfect gifts during a baby shower, and for your breastfriends!

When shopping through their website, they accept BDO, BPI, Paypal, and payments coursed through 7-11 branches. They ship nationwide too. For mommies in Manila, their products are displayed at Mondaze Boutique at the Upper Ground Floor of Robinsons Metro East, in Marcos Highway. They also are available in Greenhills, particularly at SEWN + Exhibit which is at the lower ground floor of shoppesville in Greenhills Shopping Center.

Our Work-at-Home Mom of the week is an Intentional Parenting Advocate, a social entrepreneur, a loving wife, and a mom to two adorable kids. She not only supports breastfeeding through her products, she also helps breastfeeding moms earn a side income through reselling of her products. Without further ado, let me present to you our:

Work-at-Home Mommy of the Week#10, Mommy Lan San Juan-Perez of Mother Nurture

Mommy Lan owns Mother Nurture, a company that distributes Breastfeeding Friendly Powdered Beverage Mixes

Mommy Lan owns Mother Nurture, a company that produces Breastfeeding-Friendly Powdered Beverage Mixes like Coffee and Hot Chocolate Drinks.

True to her company’s name, Mommy Lan continues to help nurture breastfeeding mothers through chocolate and coffee mixes that do not only help support lactation. To some moms who patronize her beverage mixes, Mother Nurture also serves as an additional source of income for their respective families through Mother Nurture’s Authorized Reseller’s Program.

Mommy Lan says, what started as a breastfeeding journey, turned into an advocacy. So from a full-time work-out-of-home mom, Mommy Lan has become a social entrepreneur committed to pursuing her breastfeeding advocacy and empowering fellow nursing moms.

Let’s take a peek into the WAHM Life of Mommy Lan, and get inspired to pursue our dreams, and respond to our calling.

Here is an excerpt of our interview with her:

Happy Pinay Mommy: When did you decide to be a WAHM?

Mommy Lan: I worked with several companies, and started to build a family by the age of 24. I continued working full time until I had my second child, which was five years after. When I learned about INTENTIONAL PARENTING (breastfeeding, cloth diapering, baby wearing and homeschooling), that was the time I realised that I wanted to be a full-time home maker. Then unexpectedly, a great opportunity came, from a devoted SAHM I got “promoted” to WAHM.

HPM: What made you decide to be one?

Mommy Lan: In my case, it was not planned. I didn’t even imagined to be a WAHM. Though I came from a family of businessmen. The “business” idea came out of love and my ultimate passion – BREASTFEEDING. That’s why I don’t consider this as work, much more of an advocacy.

Mother Nurture Products

Mother Nurture Products: Malunggay Infused Coffee and Choco Mix for Breastfeeding Mommies

HPM: What is the greatest challenge you have faced in relation to being a WAHM?

Mommy Lan: Time Management – I need to strictly follow my schedule so I can fulfil my role as a wife, mother and entrepreneur. Though it’s challenging, I try my best to be efficient as possible in all three areas.

HPM: What advice can you give to those who may want to become a WAHM?

Mommy Lan: I was invited to share “MY STORY” to one of the schools in Pasig. These are the FOUR Simple and Practical ways to start a business: (1) Be Innovative. Realistic, Useful and with Social Relevance; (2) Be Passionate. Gives you a PURPOSE and LIFE; (3) Be Faithful. It’s not only about you, it should be ALL about HIM. (4) Be Obedient. Once you know what GOD wants you to do, by all means, OBEY.

HPM: Can you tell us more about Mother Nurture, and how it helps fellow mothers through your reselling program?

mother nurture

Helping other people reach their breastfeeding goals. Mommy Lan has successfully pursued her advocacy, empower fellow breastfeeding moms who want to earn a side income, and more importantly be with her kids when they need her. All of these while earning extra income for her family.

Mommy Lan: The business model of Mother Nurture is to support fellow moms. We offer a reseller program to deserving moms who shares the same passion for Breastfeeding. All our resellers are breastfeeding moms either a.) full time working pero still sustain their breastfeeding and excels sa career nila or b) full time home maker who gave up their career for their family. By being an MN Reseller, we are spreading accurate infos about breastfeeding. Main Goal is to educate, encourage and inspire every Filipino family to a sustainable breastfeeding. Also, may added income sila. Malaking help sa finances nila lalo na sa SAHM — parang ako na-promote to become a WAHM.

HPM: Who inspires you?

Mommy Lan: “God, Family and all my fellow breastfeeding moms. ‘When you acquire GOD, you gain EVERYTHING!’ I believe that GOD gave me Mother Nurture for a purpose. This is to reach out to fellow breastfeeding moms, to remind them that Breastfeeding is HIS design. There may be challenges they will surpass it through FAITH and continuous prayers. Next is my family, I want to give them the best of me. Not necessarily with material things, I want them to remember that “Mommy” or “Didi” was there as a PILLAR and to SAVOR. Lastly, my fellow breastfeeding moms. Through Mother Nurture I was able to connect to hundreds of moms. (I’m quite the shy type kasi before). This helped me became more outgoing and confident. It became a venue where you will be able to exchange breastfeeding stories, sharing tips on how to deal certain challenges, encouragement and affirmation from one another was big plus. The fact that they are willing to open up to you was just flattering, even more when i received feedback from them — overwhelming.”

HPM: How does your husband/partner support you?

Mother Nurture

Mommy Lan with her family. “I want to give them the best of me. Not necessarily with material things, I want them to remember that ‘Mommy’ or ‘Didi’ was there as a PILLAR”

Mommy Lan: My husband Anthony is very supportive of what I believe in. Even before Mother Nurture, he had “recruits.” He would talk to his peers in the office, car clubs, etc. educating them how breastfeeding became beneficial to our family. He also understands my stand to “Normalize Breastfeeding”, I don’t cover up while breastfeeding even in public. He also supports me in my decision to extended breastfeeding, we will only stop breastfeeding once my son self-weans. Now, he would help me in packing and shipping orders, he devoted his MWF night to help me pack and ship orders.

HPM: Can you tell us how your usual day/week goes?

Mommy Lan: “Every MWF, I do shipping for Mother Nurture Orders. On an average we ship out to 70 persons, around 500 packs per week. My office hours is every M-F 9-11am, then resumes 5-7pm. I dedicate four hours a day for Mother Nurture, working 20 hours a week.”

Mother Nurture

Mommy Lan has a hectic schedule but she says she makes sure that her family remains to be her top priority.

“Durings TTHSSun, this is when I focus on my kids, especially my eldest who I homeschool. We do reading, researching, cooking, arts and other outdoor activities. Simultaneously, I breastfeed my 29 month old son. On the side, Tuesday Morning is my “sharing day” with my Spiritual Mentor. While every Thursday night is our date night. I don’t work on a weekend and Holidays, (though sometimes tempting), I devote our weekends to our family. Having a break from my so called work, helps keep my sanity.”

“Though my schedule is almost full, I see to it that it’s always balanced. That’s also the beauty of being a WAHM, you can always shift to areas that needed your utmost attention.”

Like in our past WAHM of the WEEK features, we also asked Mommy Lan’s clients about her products.

Mommy Dien Estrella, for instance is happy about how the beverage mixes helped her to have a stable breast milk supply.

Mommy Dien with baby Dylan Kendric, who at 21 months is still breastfeeding.

Mommy Dien says: “all I can say is that, Mother Nurture helped me thru my breastfeeding journey with my son. I am OC about maintaining my milk supply, I would try anything from Malunggay, to malt containing beverages, to lactation cookies. I had all of these, but when I learned about MN (it was great as) it is already complete! I don’t need malunggay because it already has, and plus it’s not that fattening cause it doesn’t have sugar- they use all natural stevia instead. There was a time that I was really into the chocolate flavor that I cant end the day without drinking it. It enhances my milk supply. I even noticed my milk was whiter? Maybe because it enhances the milk. There is a balance of quantity and quality! I love Mother Nurture, thru this way i don’t only get to benefit from the product but I was able to help other mommies as well who order- thru counseling. Thanks to MN, we are more than satisfied.”

Another happy Mother Nurture Client is Mommy Shiela. She does not only enjoy the products, she is also one of Mother Nurture’s authorized re-sellers. “When I gave birth it took two weeks before my milk came out. I tried looking for products that could possibly help to increase my milk production until a friend gave me a sachet of Mother Nurture choco mix. I enjoyed the product and it worked for me as well. I looked for its seller on Instagram, and found out that they are open to re-sellers, so I sent them an email. For now I am not just selling the product because I also aim to inspire other moms to breastfeed, and at the same time I want to show people the importance of breastfeeding. Breastfeeding really inspires me to resell the product. The owner (Mommy Lan) is also very inspiring, (as she is a) well-motivated and God-centered woman.

Here is a list of some online shops where you can buy Malunggay capsules.

If you are looking for Malunggay Capsules to support lactation then this post is for you. I have compiled a list of places where you can buy Malunggay Capsules for breastfeeding.

Well I was thinking it is fairly obvious where you can buy these, like in pharmacies or drugstores, but do you know that there are online stores that sell these as well?

Well there are many brands in the market today, and the best way to gauge the effectiveness is to try. Of course consider the weight (milligrams) versus price ratio but keep in mind that the potency of the malunggay capsule cannot solely be based on the cost.

Anyway, my favorite back then when I was still working out of the home, and I needed to pump BM was Pro Lacta. Sad to say, this is usually out of stock. The Natalac that was recommended by my OB was kind of pricey for me, and frankly, Pro lacta was just as effective.

I was fairly surprised that now with Shobe, there are more options. My inay gave me Malunggay Life Oil capsules, and while it works, it is kind of too pricey for me (oo na, i am a self-confessed frugalista), so I just go back to my good old pro lacta, and I just hoard more whenever they have it in our community pharmacy.I have also tried Nu Moms, and it works too, but maybe I am just too at home with Pro-Lacta. Too at home that my work-friends gave me banig after banig of prolacta for Christmas then. Whenever our pharmacy runs out of Prolacta, I just buy Moringana since it is effective for me as well.

Anyway, here are some online shops where you can buy Malunggay Capsules for Breastfeeding:

  1. Babymama.ph This online shop offers two brands of Malunggay Capsules: Moringana and Nu Moms. Check out their website here.
  2. Baobao Babies –  This Online baby store sells Moringana Capsules. Here is a link to their FB Shop

  2. Liquid Gold PH – They sell Queen Moringa Malunggay Capsules. They have it in Bottles containing 100 Capsules each. Check the pricing and availability in their FB shop here.

So there you have it, hope I have been able to help you find malunggay capsules that you could use to help boost your milk supply. Again, the best way to increase or boost your milk supply is via UNLI-LATCH or nursing as long as your baby wants to, and whenever your baby wants to. If you would like to give breastfeeding teas a try then this post is for you.

I remember gulping hot and iced versions of breastfeeding teas during my stint as a former work-out-of-the-home mom. I earlier wrote about Mother’s Milk Tea, but these teas in this post are MOSTLY those that are locally-made and sourced. Like Mother’s Milk Tea, these teas are perfect for snack time, or after pumping snacks, of for drinking throughout the day.

Actually, you can make malunggay tea, or guyabano tea if you have access to fresh leaves. Just boil them, and store the tea in a covered pitcher on your ref and you’ve got malunggay iced tea all day long and even for the next day! You can add honey or muscovado syrup if you would like it to be a bit sweet.

Anyway, if you are looking for ready-made teas for breastfeeding, then this post is for you

So here is a list on where to buy Teas for Breastfeeding in the Philippines:

  1. Supermarkets and Groceries – Almost all groceries and supermarkets have malunggay tea as well as Guyabano tea. They come in packs that are usually sold for P60.00 to P150.00 per box.
  2. Carica Kiosks– These are the herbal stalls that you see in almost all malls. They have both the Malunggay Tea and the Guyabano Tea. They sell it I think for less than P200.00 for a box of about 20 pieces

If you would like to give Mother’s Milk Tea a try then this post is for you.

I remember that as a former work-out-of-the-home mom, I loved drinking Mother’s Milk Tea with my morning snack or after-morning pump snack. I would also gulp another one in the afternoon.

You see, I alternate Mother’s Milk Tea along with other breastfeeding teas like malunggay tea and guyabano tea. My malunggay tea is usually made from fresh leaves that I boil – same as the Guyabano tea – thanks to my Dad’s assistant M, who has a guyabano tree in their backyard. Anyway, I’ll discuss the malunggay tea in another post, as this entry is meant for other breastfeeding teas that you may want to give a try.

For those unfamiliar with Mother’s Milk Tea, is a tea that is considered as a mild galactogogue which means it can help boost your supply of breast milk. Its main ingredient is fenugreek.

So here is a list on where to buy Mother’s Milk Tea for Breastfeeding in the Philippines:

  1. Healthy Options some six years ago, this was where I source the Mother’s Milk Tea that I drink day in and day out. They have branches in Greenbelt 5, Glorietta, EDSA Shangri-La among other branches.
  2. Babymama – This online store that is popular for breast pumps, also carry a wide line-up of galactogogues like Mother’s Milk Tea. Here is a link to their website. As of posting, they sell a box of 16 tea bags for P270.00

Happypinaymommy.com’s WAHM of the WEEK#6: Mommy Michelle Ann Oblea

Happypinaymommy.com’s WAHM of the Week#6 is Mommy Michelle Ann Oblea of Babymama

Our sixth Work-at-Home-Mom of the Week continues to be instrumental in ensuring a good breastfeeding relationship between full-time work out of home moms and their nurslings.

I for one have purchased a great breast pump from her many, many years back, which helped me have a great breastfeeding journey with my eldest.

Without further ado presenting to all of you:

Happypinaymommy.com’s WAHM of the WEEK #6 Mommy Michelle Ann Oblea of BabyMama

Happypinaymommy.com’s WAHM of the WEEK#6: Mommy Michelle Ann Oblea

Mommy Michelle is a proud mompreneur who is more than glad to help working moms continue to breastfeed. At the same time, she is very happy to be able to spend a lot of time with her family, while running her successful enterprise.

Mommy Michelle takes pride in being able to help moms provide their babies the best nutrition even while away from them because of the demands of their jobs. Even great is that she provides pumping moms a more affordable options in terms of breast pumps that are indeed efficient in expressing milk, and in keeping the working mother’s BM supply up.

Apart from breast pumps and parts, Mommy Michelle’s website, babymama.ph also provides Pinay breastfeeding moms a wide array of breastfeeding-related products such as nursing wear, milk storage options, lactation aids like teas, herb capsules, lactation pastries, and the like — both local and imported. She also has slings, among the other many products that her shop offers, that support natural parenting.

More importantly, Mommy Michelle is happy to be spending more time with her family. Like the other WAHMs that we have featured, Mommy Michelle has a more flexible schedule now compared to when she was still doing the usual 8 to 5 grind.

Let us take a peek in the WAHM life of Mommy Michelle through an excerpt of our conversation with her:

Happypinaymommy: When did you decide to be a WAHM?

Mommy Michelle: I had a corporate career and went back to work after my first baby. Then when I got pregnant with my second baby, I had to go on bed rest and had to stay at home.

This was the first time I had so much time with my daughter ever since going back to work from maternity leave.

=============================================================

HPM: What made you decide to be one?

Mommy Michelle: I really enjoyed the unhurried hours with my daughter at home. Before that, I would only see her a few minutes in the morning and then a couple of hours when I get home from work tired.

HPM: What is the greatest challenge you have faced in relation to being a WAHM?

Mommy Michelle: I missed my friends from the office. We were a small and really close department where everyone was nice and decent. I missed the daily interactions with my department mates, the lunch outs, birthday celebrations, mundane everyday conversations that carry on day to day.

It’s different when you meet up once in a while to catch up because the continuity is not there anymore and how you’re getting a daily dose of each other’s lives.

I think I was lonely for year and my husband had to keep taking me out on dates so I wouldn’t get depressed.

HPM: What advice can you give to those who may want to become a WAHM?

Mommy Michelle: A. Choose a business where you’re an expert about something you really love. The best business is when you see a need that nobody else addresses. Or if there are competitors already, you have better way of delivering the product.

Pinay Breastfeeding

Mommy Michelle explains: “This is our bestseller breast pump for several years. M1 enabled a lot of working moms to express a lot of milk using a portable, rechargeable, yet really affordable breast pump.”

B. Have savings before quitting work. Savings should cover capitalization as well as personal expenses. My small retirement package was my capital for the business.

C. Set expectations with hubby. My hubby knew that I wouldn’t be able to contribute to the household expenses while establishing the business. So we talked about what this will mean for him and tried to set goals/timetables.

Pinay Breastfeeding

A picture sent by one of Mommy Michelle’s clients, Babymama Mhayzel P. “I am satisfied with spectra m1. I am not so worried that my stash will be short because i know that i have a buddy now to provide for my precious one”

HPM: Who inspires you?

Mommy Michelle: My customers inspire me. When I meet moms who say I made a difference in their breastfeeding, this really inspires me.

There was a mom who tried my pumps because she thought she didn’t have enough milk for her baby. When she tried it and so much milk flowed out, she cried because she was never confident that she could make enough milk for baby.

Another mom who just gave birth and whose baby could not latch went to the office with a whole baranggay of family members. I gave her tips to latch baby but she looked like she so exhausted, drained and was about to give up. When she tried the pump and she saw her milk for the first time, she also cried.

HPM: How does your husband support you?

Pinay Breastfeeding

Mommy Michelle with her Husband, who has been very supportive of her entrepreneurial endeavors and WAHM life.

Mommy Michelle: My husband is more of a visionary and he tells me about big picture things that (I think) will be relevant or practical 3-5 years down the road. I don’t have any imagination at all. I’m more of a daily doer, I just think of the tasks at hand and, at most, a 3-5 month project plan. So my husband is the big thinker for me.

He listens to my stories and jokes with me about them. He’s busy with his work at his office but whenever he comes to my office, he’s always willing to install lights or fixtures for me.

When we moved from our old office to our new office, my husband was the one coordinating every detail with the contractor and building admin (on top of his job) while I didn’t do a signal thing and deliberately didn’t think about it. He just took this on so I can just focus on running the business.

Mommy Michelle’s clients are very thankful that they now have access to great breast pumps that help them nourish their little ones. Mommy Jacquilyn Lara is a very proud pumping mommy thank to the Breast Pump she bought from Mommy Michelle.

Hello ms.Miann! I just want you to know that I am so thankful to the Lord for leading me to your fb page. To tell you honestly, I was so worried as to how will I continue breastfeed my baby the moment I get back to work. They even told me to formula-feed my son for I cannot supply his needs while I’m away. Thank God I found your page. Yes, the pump is a bit pricey but it’s really worth the price! I thought breastfeeding my baby wouldn’t be possible but Spectra m1 has been an instrument for 3 months now in achieving my dream as a mother, and that is to give the best milk, my breastmilk.

Malunggay is very helpful in terms of supporting the nutrition needs of a breastfeeding mother.

This post is meant to help lactating moms have a wider variety of Malunggay recipe choices to prepare for herself and for her family.

Here are some Malunggay recipes for breastfeeding mommies:

1. Corn and Malunggay Soup – I have earlier written about Filipino Soups for breastfeeding mommies, but I haven’t included this recipe in that post. Anyway, I am thinking this is perfect to pair with crispy fried fish like tilapia, hasa-hasa, or even GG. Check out Panlasang Pinoy’s Recipe here. Not expensive to make at all.

2. Malunggay Pesto – This yummy Pasta recipe does not only give you your malunggay dose for the day, it also gives you a good Pasta Fix! Check out this yummy and affordable pasta recipe from Yummy PH here.

4. Fish Burger with Malunggay – If you regularly follow happypinaymommy.com, then you will know by now that Chef Boy Logro is one of my all-time favorite chefs! Here is a good recipe where e incorporated malunggay in his Fish Burger Patties:

5. Malunggay Pancake – Malunggay for breakfast may not sound very appetizing, but this will be a good “take-it-to-the-office-breakfast,” that may help increase your morning pumping output. Bonus points because believe it or not, it is yummy! get the recipe here courtesy of The Peach Kitchen.

So there you have it, hope I have been able to help you to file more malunggay recipes in your arsenal.

Are you considering to buy hospital grade breast pump in the Philippines? (Photo Credits)

When you need a pump that is hard working, very efficient, and is very close at mimicking the suckling of an infant to help fully empty your breasts and at the same time help maintain your supply especially when there is no direct latching, then you may want to consider getting a Hospital Grade Pump.

This type of pump is very helpful in providing breast milk especially for NICU Babies, and for moms who exclusively pump. It helps much in maintaining breast milk supply.

Sadly, we have no access to rental pumps unlike in the United States. The only way you could get your hand in one is in very big hospitals, as well is in the former Medela House, which is now called The Parenting Emporium.

Anyway, you may be glad to note that there are Hospital Grade Pumps that are available for you to purchase here in the Philippines.

I have listed below some of the shops where you can buy hospital grade pump in the Philippines:

  1. BabymamaPH – They have hospital grade pumps such as the Ameda Platinum, Ameda Elite, as well as the Spectra brand. You may check it out in their online shop here.

Wondering where to buy breast pump in the Philippines? (Photo Credits)

If you need to express breast milk for when you are away from your baby, and you need to purchase a breast pump, then this post is for you.

I have compiled a list of shops – both online and physical – where you can purchase breast pumps.

So here is the list of some shops where you can buy breast pump in the Philippines:

1. Department Stores/Drug Stores/Malls – I would not generally encourage serious pumping mommas to purchase their breast pump from malls/drugstores/department stores as most of the pumps available there are not really for long-term use. By serious pumping mommas I mean those that are away from the baby from 8-10 hours at a time and would need to pump milk. I pumped milk for more than a year, and the electric one that I bought for Php5,000.00 at that time did not do its job well. Really sorry to say but these are just good for engorgement, or occasional pumping but not for totally emptying your breast, much less provide milk for your child and maintain your supply while you are away from your little one. You are better off learning hand-expression techniques from breastfeeding experts actually. The EXCEPTION to this is if you found trusted Breast Pump Name Brands like Ameda, Medela, and Lansinoh in your department store shelves. Now those brands you can buy and rely on. If I am not mistaken, you can check in Rustan’s.

2. The Parenting Emporium – They are the official retailer of Medela Breastfeeding Pumps in our country and they have a physical shop, as well as a website. Check it out here.

3. BabymamaPH – If you are looking for great quality and not so expensive pumps that work well, then Babymama is the legitimate online shop where you can purchase breast pumps. If you are an office mom who would like to pump breastmilk for your little one while you are away, but you cannot afford the US brands, then those that are retailed by Babymama, are your best bet. Believe me because I purchased one from them many, many years ago and it helped me exclusively breastfeed my eldest even while I was away at work. It maintained my supply too, that I was able to nurse Achi until she was 4 ½ years old. More importantly, Mi’ann, the mommy behind BabyMamaPH, is very, very helpful. One time something went wrong with my pump, and she helped me ASAP by sending a courier to pick up the unit from my office, and loaning me a pump while my own is being repaired. If you will be needing parts, they have some on hand too, and can deliver it in an instant. So that is one exceptional customer service for you! They also carry hospital-grade pumps, AMEDA Breast pumps, and other breastfeeding accessories. Check out their website here.

4. Lazada – If you are looking to buy a back-up breast pump (hello power outages!) or some manual pumps for engorgement or occasional use, then beat the heavy traffic crisis and just shop over at Lazada. In fact they even have the Medela Manual Pump — buy it here. Here is also another Manual Pump — Avent — which you may want to check out here. This First Years Mi Pump is a single electric pump that you can use as a back-up for your full time pump. My mom sent me one like this before and it is OK to use as a back-up pump — plus we used breastflow bottles then. Here is a link to the site.

5. BabyOutletPH – They also carry breast pumps, usually the ones that you also see in department stores. Check out their website here.

6. BaoBao Babies – This Facebook Shop sells Unimom and Spectra breastpumps, that as I have mentioned, are a good alternative to the more expensive breast pumps. Check out their FB Page here.

7. Liquid Gold PH — They carry Unimom’s Manual and Electric Breast Pumps. Go to their FB Store here.

8. UPDATED September 03, 2016: Cudsly.com: Sells various breast pumps like single electric, manual, and even double electric pumps in brands such as First Years, Tommee Tippee, Horigen, Fisher Price, Playtex, and various models of Unimom. Check out their shopping website here.

9. 8. UPDATED September 03, 2016: Shopee.ph: Check out this new online shopping and selling platform that gives discounts as ell as free shipping promos! As of last check there is a Medela Pump, Philips Avent Pumps, as well as other pump brands being sold by the sellers there. Download their mobile app or shop from their website here.

I am sure there are other shops where you can purchase breast pumps. I promise to update this post, as I discover more. I purposely did not include reselling sites like OLX because most of the breast pumps being sold there are second hand, and I know for a fact that it is not advisable to buy used breast pumps because the pumps that they sell have an open-system, therefore not for sharing or reuse by another mom even if you change the horns, tubing or what not.

Again, for the online stores, I included their links so that you could personally check on their current pricing and product availability.

If you are looking for a good book that can guide you through your pumping career, I recommend The Breastfeeding Mother’s Guide to Making More Milk: Foreword by Martha Sears, RN, which you may buy here. For a little less than Php600.00 you will have this ebook to read on your mobile device on your own convenience.

If you have the time, hope you could drop by my Facebook page and hit the like button, so you can receive regular updates from Happypinaymommy.com direct on your newsfeed.
